FLATROCK CHURCH OF CHRIST
The
Flatrock Church of Christ had its beginning at the Union meeting house
on Piney Fork of Beaverdam, Hickman County, Tennessee. The
Church
of Christian Union was organized January 31, 1871.
The church at Union and Flatrock, on East Cane Creek, three miles North
of Hohenwald, Tennessee were united by mutual consent of the disciples
on on March 23, 1873. Union continued to hold meetings until
they moved to Salem on Big Swan Creek, in Lewis County, the third
Lord's day in March, 1884.
On the second Lord's day in June, 1896, some members moved from Salem
to Flatrock, choosing R. C. Brown, J. R. Bates, J. L. Downey,
C. T. Brown, J. J. Edwards, and W. H. Downey as elders. A. J.
Edwards and W. H. Downey as deacons.
The old location was by a bluff with a large flat top, Hence the name
Flatrock. In 1944, the location of the church moved
to its present location on the State highway 48
.
