THE OAK GROVE COMMUNITY AND CHURCH

In 1870, the first Oak Grove settlers came from Laura Hill, Tennessee.  They first worshipped with a small  congregation that held their meetings in New Hope School house.

In 1910, Oak Grove Methodist Church was built by members of the community.  Each year the membership grew.   The church sets among a large grove of large Oak Trees from which the church and community was named.  In 1933, this small church was replaced by a larger one.

A Home Demonstration and Community club was organized in the late forties and is still holding regular monthly  meetings in the community building which was build back of the church.

In July, 1950, Oak Grove started the first annual fish fry and homecoming.  Since that time the annual fish fry  attendance has grown.

In 1957, the present Oak Grove Church was built.  Someone needs to turn in a better and up to date History of the Church and Community.
